Bug Farm is farmhouse ale made with rosemary, lavender, and spearmint and refermented with watermelon.

Bug Farm is a revisitation of our 2014 Hibernal Dichotomous recipe. We pressed juice from Texas watermelons, refermented it in farmhouse ale brewed with rosemary, lavender, and mint, and then naturally conditioned it through refermentation in the bottle.

We processed about a ton of watermelon by hand over the course of two days at Jester King. We diced the watermelon, pureed it, then added it straight to the tank for re-fermentation. The rosemary, lavender, and spearmint were all added cold side as well.

Bug Farm has roots at Jester King going back over a decade. It continues to be one of the favorite beers we make. Available at Jester King now (open seven days a week) and self-distributed around Austin starting today!

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Colin. Pours hazy yellow with a frothy white head. The aroma has some rindy lemon and lime, menthol, spruce. Light sweet flavor with some tangy citrus fruits, pine, minty menthol, pale wood. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with moderate sweetness, mellow acidity, some funk, lemon, peach. Not bad.

Bottle at a tasting. I liked this. Cloudy yellow. Lots of spice, clove; wild grasses, lavender, and a lot of it; and lemon. Dry and spicy. good.

Bottle shared by Brian, thanks! Pours a cloudly light yellow with a white head that dissipates completely. Aroma has perfume and tropical fruit notes with a bit of lavender and light grains. Flavor begins with passion fruit and a light tartness with underlying notes of clove and menthol in the finish.

Sample at the 2014 Infected Chimipalooza on 11/01/2014. Slightly hazy pale yellow color with a thin white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Fruity aroma with floral wheat and malt notes. Light to medium body with flavors of herbal wheat, citrus, watermelon and a bit of yeast. The finish is floral and fruity. Decent overall.

bottle from a trade, not sure batch number. clear piss yellow, mild head. Nose is all lavender with a touch of spearmint with fruity funk and light pale malts. Wow, there’s a lot of herbal in this. so fruity and juicy. the lemon lime is intense. lavender and spearmint next and finish of the papaya / watermelon with a touch of mango. more like a fruit juice cocktail than a beer. very interesting.

750 mL bottle shared at Ale Alpharetta by West. Pours a cloudy yellow, with little to no head. The aroma is lemon zest, leather, rice, roses, and mango. Very tart flavor, with a zesty, crisp sweetness. Light body, sticky, with a hard, mineral feel. This is a VERY complex and unique beer. Layers upon layers of fruity, floral, grainy, and funky aromas.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow with medium frothy head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong rosemary, sage, funk, and subtle watermelon. Thin mouthfeel with nice watermelon upfront, lavender and wood. Easy to drink, really enjoyed this.
