Garún Nr. 19.1

To celebrate the success of Garún Nr. 19, the highest rated Icelandic beer on Untappd.com, BeerAdvocate.com and RateBeer.com (where it scores a whopping 98/100), we decided to give it the royal treatment and age it in cognac casks for 10 months. The aging process gives Garún heady tones of oak and vanilla in addition to the intensely rich palate of chocolate, licorice and coffee.
Garún is named for the heroine of one of Iceland’s most popular folktales, The Deacon of Dark River. A tale of ghosts and undying love.

Mycket gott!

Bottle from Systembolaget. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of soy sauce, dark chocolate and cognac. Similar taste, also notes of dried dark fruit and wood. The body was almost full and the carbonation soft. Not a bad one but maybe a bit young?

40cl on tap in the Una Cerveza tent at the Uus Maailm days in Tallinn. Dark, used motor oil look with a modest beige head. Roasty aroma with fairly dominating cognac notes, dark and roasty chocolate, wooden notes and hints of coffee. Cognac, chocolate and coffee in one nice liquid dessert. Sweet, flavourful and fairly complex.
