Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks zvsn. Very dark brown to black. Aroma of roast, licorice, some dark fruits, alcohol. Bittersweet flavor with roast, licorice, some fruitiness, and a bitter finish, with a bit of alcohol. Medium to full-bodied.

35,5 cl bottle (10%) @ home, bottled 09.06.2014
Aroma is nice and sweetish with licorice. Flavour has salty licorice, some coffee and hints of soy sauce. Rather typical IS – but also a solid one.

Re-rate: Too salty but not that bad. 8-4-7-4-14=3.7

Draught @ Haket. Pours black with a small frothy mocha head that leaves a small spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty with dark bread, burnt caramel, toasted oatmeal, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, moist soil and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty. Mouthfeel is soft, astringent, tiny boozy and medium bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and bitter with dark bread, burnt caramel, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, moist soil and hints of alcohol. Solid malty and pleasantly bitter hopped stout.

From a 330ml bottle on 13/6/2015. Pours close to black with a smallish head. The nose is rich and malty, featuring chocolate, molasses and soy sauce. The flavour features dark chocolate, caramel and sweet soy, followed by a slightly spicy bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A solid enough impy.

2016 winter version. Still very solid, but just that. Fairly one dimensional with lots of dark roasted malts. Bitter roasty finish. Thanks for sharing Chuwy! On tap at Nakameguro Taproom. Served in a stemmed tulip. Black with slight reddish hue and nice tan head. Really bold coffee and chocolate flavors present. Strong coffee and chocolate forward stout rounded out with nice dried dark fruit flavors: fig, prune and currant. 10% alcohol is almost unnoticeable. Very drinkable imperial stout. Oily mouthfeel with a well-balanced finish that’s slightly bitter and sour. Great imperial stout.

Overly bitter for my liking - almost astringent. Lots of roast and some coffee. Thick consistency. Some dark chocolate. Medium bitter finish. Black pour. Tap at Churchkey.

600 yen bottle from CBB. This beer’s been popping up all over the place. Served in a snifter. Thick viscous inky black pour with almost no head but some slow acting carbonation bubbling up. Plums, figs, umami, candied fruit & Hershey’s chocolate syrup in the nose. Wonderfully smooth medium body that reveals a slick mouthfeel in the aftertaste. As I keep drinking I started to feel the body was a bit light for the style. The flavor is dark bitter chocolate, coffee beans & licorice, good savoury umami + soy sauce as well. After warming up quite a bit you get some molasses & smoke in the nose... pretty good with a bit more tweaking this could be a killer beer, I need some kind of carbonation-being able to get a cm of foam would be nice as would a bit of a thicker body. Other than that quite strong.
