In order to make real kvass, malt must be fermented. A small quantity of alcohol emerges in the drink as a result of each fermentation process. However, the 0.5 per cent alcohol content does not make kvass an alcoholic beverage.

Bottle at my uncle's summer house, Kasmu. Aroma is rye. Sweet edged. Opaque cola brown. Thin frothy tan head. Very sweet and sugary with a bitter grainy rye streak. Light. Thin. Slick. Fizzy carbonation. Long slightly dry finish. Thirst quenching.

Bottled (thanks Perc!). Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is roasted, some syrup. Malax limpa quite much. Flavour is malax limpa (syrupy rye bread), and some slight tartness. Quite ok.

400ml bottle shared by djoeye. Good looking label, design and appearance. Deep ruby red body, stable, creamy tan-coloured head that laced well. Sweet smell of bread, malts and prunes. Sweet taste of malt extract, dried fruits and bread. Fine version of the style. Good drinking now and then, very sweet though (Tromsø 27.07.2015).
