On tap at the brewpub. It’s an almost black one, at least very dark brown, with a finger thick beige head leaving lacing. Roasted malts, some dried fruits and coffee grit notes on the nose. Something reminiscent of tonka beans too... Or is it that? It’s full bodied, quite dry and bitter, with a nice carbonation level. There’s a faint vegetal touch as well, both in aroma and flavor. Coffee, tonka, some dried fruits and dark sugar sweetness, almost rum-like, in the flavor. Low on bitterness, but it doesn’t need much either. Lasting finish, mostly on the dark side. Not much pale going on here, but its sure a fine one. 161220

Tap @ the brewpub. Pitch black body with a fine, dense, lacing beige head. Aroma has dark malt, coffee, dark chocolate and hint of pine. Flavor is dark malt, not much roasted – more some kind of bitter malt in lack of a better expression. Dark, not particular sweet chocolate and hint of pine with slightly sour coffee. OK balanced body and quite long lasting aftertaste with some of the same “malty bitter’ish” flavor. Quite nice, but I have a little problem to really get the flavors here. Much of the bitterness does not taste like hop bitterness and the chocolate has something not very typical chocolate in the flavor. Of cause this make the whole thing more interesting, but the main impression is more like something interesting than really a good tasting beer.
