Bottle @ Bakgården Både &. Unclear brown body with a small, dense beige head. Nice aroma, like the original Old ale with a mild but distinct touch of Akevitt that adds a light touch of flowers and herbs to the original toasted malt, caramel and dry fruit. The alcohol is present, but not boozy at all, just super smooth and harmonizing well with the wood and also something fruity at the end. This is a very tasty, smooth, complex beer that’s perfect for sipping quietly int the evening. World class from Qvart.

Bottle, at Bakgården Både&. A brown, lighlty unclear beer with a small off-white head. The aroma has lots of oak, but less than the whisky barrel edition, with more caramel and alcohol, but the flavors of dark dried fruits and rye bread seems to be at similar levels. It's full-bodied, smooth and quite softly carbonated, with a good warmth from the booze. Less edgy than the whisky edition, which weren't really edgy either. The flavor too has less wood, slightly less booze, and more caramel, probably due to the nature of the spirits the barrels used to keep. There's a spiced touch, some spiced woody hints and a vague vanilla note too. The finish is really lasting, but even though there's less oak than in the whisky edition, I'd like it to be even more toned down. Else it's sure a beer for those quite moments in your favorite chair, preferably by the fire. Pity there were so few bottles and super-limited availability, else I'd love cellaring it for at least a year to see if everything rounds off even more. 181115
