Bottle. A deep brown beer, unclear it seems, topped by a small, dense, dark beige head. The aroma has molasses, dark dried fruits, licorice, brown sugar, some booze and herbal booze notes, dark chocolate and a faint oxidized vinegarish touch. It's full-bodied, lightly warming and smooth on the palate, quite low on carbonation, and not too sweet. Some tannin-ish woodyness. The flavor has more impact from the booze, slightly herbal, with lots of molasses, dark dried fruits, dark chocolate and some licorice chocolate and roasted malts. Tending more towards caramel and toffee in the swallow. A nice one, but a bit rough-ish on the booze in the mouth, sort of crashes with the else mellow beer. On the other hand, not sure if it would be half as interesting without the barrel aging. 220202
