The latest in our series takes inspiration from chocolate caterpillar cake, and begs the question; is anything safe from Scottish chippies …or breweries? We’ve pushed chocolate levels to the limit, combining chocolate malts and wheat with cacao husks, nibs, cholaca and cocoa powder for the ultimate indulgent imperial stout. Expect a rich, velvety mouthfeel and layers of vanilla so smooth it could squash supermarket squabbles with a single sip.

[August 2024] Near black with a small, bubbly tan head. Sweet chocolate and cake on the nose, thickish and cakey, massively sweet with big candy notes; eventually a dry finish

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 03/09/24. Black with a tan cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is chocolate, brown sugar melt, caramel, vanilla, light spice, dark malts. Taste comprises chocolate candy, toffee fudge, molasses, brown sugar melt, light spice, dark malts. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Solid fun time pays-tree.

can from kihoskh pours pitch black with a fizzy brown head that soon disappears, sort of like a carbonated water, but dark brown. weird. aroma is vanilla and chocolate and pastry, chocolate bisquits, both vanilla and chocolate are quite intense, but roasted malts are low or missing. flavor is quite good though, faint charred woody notes add character and depth to the vanilla and chocolate, coffe grind, i might even notice some roasted malts in there. Quite intense, quite sweet but the sweetness seem to be centered around vanilla sweetness, somewhat watery texture. doesn't entirey feel like beer, more like a really good chocolate/coffee based liqeur.

Can from The Star & Garter, Bromley. Black pour with a tan head. Nose is chocolate cake, cacao beans, toffee, caramel, brown sugar. Taste is the same with a splash of cola & coconut easing its way through. Gradual alcohol burn, catches you out in the back end. Rich warming finish.

18th August 2024
Can. Opaque dark brown beer, small and short lived dark tan head. The palate is pretty light all told, good fine minerally carbonation. Rich dark malts, rich dark chocolate. A slightly floral dark chocolate that may be the DDF element. An unexpected but clear ripe berry vibe, blackberry and bruised raspberry. Rich chocolate liqueur, almost chocolate vodka, but not quite. Airy light but fairly boozy finish finds the berry aspect getting almost marshmallow like. Great fun.
