Inspired by an 1837 recipe from the long closed Reid's Brewery, Double Brown Stout is as rich and robust as its name suggests. A deceptively simple grist of Maris Otter, Brown malt and Roasted barley deliver a pleasing array of fruity, mid roast coffee flavours, lent drying spice by classic East Kent Goldings. A history lesson in a glass, with a gently warming finish? Let’s study.

Keg @ Inn Deep, Glasgow. Black with a very small light-brown head. Dense, some booziness but plenty of flavour, straddling the two styles of Brown and Stout ales. Quite smooth, low on aroma.

24/8/2023. Cask at the 44th Peterborough Beer Festival. Pours very dark brown with a small bubbly beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla, roasted malt, dark fruits and nut. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Quite full bodied, smooth, soft carbonation. Quite boozy and enjoyable.
