Named after the famous cocktail, Between the Sheets started as a bold double stout which we knew would be perfect for barrel ageing and the chance to experiment. We aged half in Caribbean Rum barrels and half in Cognac barrels for 9 months before blending back together. This has created a wonderfully unique beer, with the characters of both spirits pleasantly intertwining with notes of dried fruit, muscovado sugar and oak.

375ml bottle from the brewery. Pours a dark brown with a off white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of dried fruits, prunes, cola, coffee, rum & cognac. Medium body. Medium bitter finish.

Bottle from the Thornbridge online store. Nose is molasses, cola, prunes, dried fruits. Taste is very similar. Has an intrusive bitter backnote which spoils it somewhat. However it's almost balanced out with a spot of coffee coming through in the back end, bumps the score up a tad,not much though.

Bottle at home picked up from the brewery online. A reddy mahogany brown coloured pour with a lively khaki loose head. Aroma is semi sweet, earthy roast, rum and raisin, plum, woody roast. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, nutty earthy roast, chocolate, liquorice, meaty roast, light rusty penny, light spicy rum, chocolate, rum and raisin. Palate is semi sweet, light tang, rounded, moderate carbonation. Lovely. Lingering earthy chocolate.
Oak and dark sugar dominate the aroma and initial flavour. Thin mouthfeel, but smooth. Cognac comes through in the finish. Good, but cognac is too prominent for my tastes, much prefer rum.

Creamy light brown head on a mahogany coloured body.
Roasted, chocolate & sugary aroma.
Medium bodied, smooth & creamy thinning out to a clean back.
Malt, woody, toffee & raisin tastes with a long boozy bitter finish.
Too bitter.

Moderately sweet, quite a lot of ashy bitterness, hard roast, earth, bitter cocoa, dried out leathery berries. Lingering bitter finish, mellow warmth. Not bad, pretty toothy.

Bottle, small bubbly head, dark brown colour, coffee, roasted notes, some dried fruits and a hint of caramel, quite dry with a bit of bitterness. Nice and drinkable, a tad dull.

Bottle from the Thornbridge Beer Club. Pours clear dark brown with a thin bubbly tan head. Aromas of of the spirits that were in the barrels before the beer. Rum and cognac notes for sure. Molasses and mixed dried fruit. Not many stout notes. Taste is quite chewy, faint chocolate and more dried mixed peel. Boozy finish.
