8.3% Double Stout Aged In Rum And Cognac Barrels.
Named after the famous cocktail, Between the Sheets started as a bold double stout which we knew would be perfect for barrel ageing and the chance to experiment. We aged half in Caribbean Rum barrels and half in Cognac barrels for 9 months before blending back together. This has created a wonderfully unique beer, with the characters of both spirits pleasantly intertwining with notes of dried fruit, muscovado sugar and oak.

Almost opaque dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Airy light palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Remarkably mellow and slightly thin dark malts, almost sans any dark malt character, more like a mellow Scotch ale. The barrelling is a bit better.. Fruity rum and mildly caramelly cognac. Some mild ripe and bitterness on the back end. Light semi dry finish. Nice enough, I just wish the malts were even close to a double stout. There not and this isn't. .

Bottle from Raynville Superstore. It pours near black with a medium khaki head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, bitter - sweet, umami, liquorice, dark chocolate, rum soaked oak, dark and dried fruits, toasted brown sugar touch white grape, congac, nutty, praline and some coffee grounds. The taste is dry, bitter, dark roasted, charred, ash, burnt toast, bitter - sweet, cacao nibs, dark chocolate, rocky road, liquorice, booze soaked oak, definite cognac vibes, dried fruits, some toasted spice and tannin with a dry, dark roasted, umami driven finish. Fulsome body and moderate carbonation. A very grown up and savoury affair.

Bottle at home, from Thornbridge online, 02/02/24. Lighter shade of black with a fast escaping khaki covering. Nose is dark malts, mellow cognac, herb, spice, dried fruit rinds, cocoa sprinkle. Taste comprises charr, fruit slice, more rum than cognac compared top the nose, spice, dark malts, toffee, molasses, burnt toffee. Medium bodied with bite, light prickly carbonation, drying close with a balanced kiss of alcohol. Tidy enough BA impy if perhaps lacking some depth.
