The use of lactose sugar along with fair trade, cocoa nibs, gives a rich, creamy, milk, chopper character to this porter that is then amplified by a bounty of shaved coconut. This outlier of a trans Atlantic treat, may not take you to Mars, but it could be the tipping point to get you to talk to strangers.

473ml can. Pours an unclear brown with amber hue and a small, creamy, short lived, beige head that laces nicely. Mild aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and nuts. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, lactose, milk chocolate, raisin and faint coconut. Medium body with an oily texture and average to soft carbonation. Would have liked more coconut, but still ok.

Medium brown, thin head. Medium complexity, has nice flavours, not getting a ton of coconut.

On tap at The Magnet, pours a dark amber / mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is light, with lactose, and nary a trace of coconut or cocoa. Flavour is weak and watery, with lots of lactose, maybe a hint of coconut. Watery, poorly calibrated and just unpleasant.

Poured from the tap @ Darby’s (50th pint to finally get my Hall of Foam after all these years - I usually get flights - was going to wait for Peche day or something more memorable, but don’t make it out here much anymore). Dark brown with small beige head. Toasted malt, some nuts, very feint chocolate, coconut is almost undetectable. Okay.

473 ml can. Pours a reddish brown with full head that settles quickly. Aromas of light nutty chocolate and barley, with green coconut and vegetal notes. Flavors follow same but without the vegetal notes. Base is too light and not the greatest coconut presence.
