M&B Mild is full of fruity scents derived from its complex triple yeast strain. They are discernable amongst the roasted cereal and buttery caramel aromas. Burnt-roast coffee and chocolate and a trace of lemon-sourness cut through the sweet, malty fruits in this classic Birmingham mild.

Pint at the newly refurbished Marston Green Tavern. Clientele still the same though. Pours black with nice consistent white head. Light roast with moderate sweetness, some caramel. Smooth easy drinking. Not huge in flavour but hit the spot on a warm afternoon.

Keg at the Rose & Crown, Birchalls, Walsall. Mahogany, translucent, with a big creamy head. Lots of lacing. Metallic smell, a bit sour with a good hit of liquorice. Sweet taste with a bit of sourness on the finish. Watery body. Liquorice, malt vinegar and oak chips in the aftertaste. Really not a lot to it but it's a somewhat passable old-fashioned mild.

Ked, half pint, at The Winning Post, Worcester. Off-white head blanketing the glass. Clear coal black body. Vague creamy malty nose, slightly roasted. Lightly roasted malty sweetness to the flavour character. Soft ending. Easy to drink, thin bodied. Okay. (Sunday pub crawl with TheCellarer and Snegurochka 08.07.2018).
