M&B Mild is full of fruity scents derived from its complex triple yeast strain. They are discernable amongst the roasted cereal and buttery caramel aromas. Burnt-roast coffee and chocolate and a trace of lemon-sourness cut through the sweet, malty fruits in this classic Birmingham mild.

On tap at a pub in Woolaston, 21/11/2015.Dark brown with a thin, beige, head. Very easy drinking mild, with a touch of chocolate and toasted malt. Watery in character and rather dull all round.

Cask @ Rock & Fountain, Shrewsbury. Pours dark brown with creamy off-white head. Nutty, vague malts in the aroma. Taste is harmless enough, just a bit dull and nondeScript. This was consumed after an evening of flavoursome high-ABV Siren beers at a tap takeover so that may have influenced things somewhat.

Tap at the Station Hotel, Dudley. Poured a clear medium brown with a frothy white head and some broken lace. The aroma is roasted malt, nuts. The flavour is medium bitter with a light watery malt hop bitter palate. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Probably the worst mild I ever had.

Keg pint in a local club on 27th Sep 2013. Poured a good looking deep ruby red/brown in colour with a full creamy beige head that stayed the distance: poured very cold. I wasn’t expecting much, but it tasted OK, no smell, too cold. Nutty with malty molasses in the flavour, hints of toffee, caramel and coffee: not at all bad for a weak keg Mild. Obviously not too heavy or deep body wise, but a decent enough brew non-the-less.

Sweet mother of God! This is the worst beer I’ve had this year. Dull appearance, thin as dish water and tastes like it too. A pint too far for this soldier.

[Keg at the Bacchus Hotel, Sutton-on-Sea] Brown, thick beige head, slight fizz. Thin and pretty tasteless - just a hint of coffee roast if you can be bothered to search for it. Dismal.

Keg at the Rose & Crown, Old Hill. Pours near pitch black with a medium head. Aroma is roasted malt, some blackberries and chocolate. Taste starts with some malt and then roasted malt and bitter coffee. This got a lot better as it warmed, would have been a lot better if this was on cask and not nearly frozen to death.

Keg at the Plough, Sandiacre, Nottinghamshire. A glorious colour, chestnut with a purple tint - rather like a young port - and a cream head; unfortunately it was downhill from there. Little aroma; creamy, nutty and fruity in the mouth, but not very assertive, and nothing to offer in the way of a finish. Nice to look at, but disappointing to drink.
