Tap at Mikkeller Bangkok. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a thin broken light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, red berry fruits, vinous alcohol. The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter, with a roasty, fruity, charcoal, boozy alcohol bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Nice in small quantities.

Port barrel aged imperial stout by the Danish child of Mikkeller and Three Floyds, 75 cl bottle from Gedeelde Vreugde. Pale yellowish beige, immediately opening, dissolving head disappearing completely, black robe with hazy mahogany-chestnut edge. Aroma of cigar ashes, coffee liqueur, tawny port but much stronger solventy effect of varnish and even nail polish remover, dried fig, toasted pecan nuts, bitter black chocolate, whisky, black coffee, some boiled down gravy. Sweetish dried fig in the onset paired with equally strong, beef stock-like umami, sourish undertone, softish carb, full and oily body; deeply walnutty and pecan-nutty malts, lots of black chocolate but more bitter than sweet, bit ashy even, with a pronounced roasted coffee bitterness taking over quickly. Ends in a roasted chicory-like bitterness drenched in alcoholic booziness, quite astringent and more whisky-like than port-like, with strong solventy effects, almost methylated spirits retronasally. Too solventy and boozy, a bit crude really, with a spirit-like harshness to it that impairs drinkability a bit. Warpigs has done much greater stouts than this one.

Keg at Billies, Antwerpen, 07/12/18. Pitch black with a dirty tan head that retains well ... a good looker. Nose is black peppery spice, charr, roast malts, dried fruits, dark chocolate. Taste comprises bitter choc, toffee, dark fruit rinds, spice, light smoke, ashen tones, light barrel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light warming boost. Decent impy but no wow offered like some of Warpigs BA range.

(750ml bottle from Mikkeller Webshop) Pours black with a small medium brown head. Notes of rich port wine, raisins, dates, dark candy sugar, toffee, moderate roast, soft chocolate, quite some aged wood and leather, touch of liquorice saltiness, finish is long and filled with port, burnt sugar and roasty woody notes. Quite sweet on the nose and on the tongue initially, but finishes a bit drier with a little booze. Medium bodied and very softly carbonated. Nice barrel character here, it certainly isn't shying away from its port influence. The base stout isn't super hefty but works well with the barrel.
