Wood-Aged Sour Peach Ale
Eric s Ale, from the creative and slightly diabolical mind of brewer Eric Salazar, is the third offering in our Lips of Faith program. Lips of Faith is all about taking chances, breaking rules and being experimental kind of like being back in high school. Eric won the quarterly drink-off qualifier by correctly identifying which three beers in what percentage had been blended in his glass, earning him the right to brew whatever kind of beer he chose.
Having worked closely with our wood beer project, La Folie, Eric decided to play around with oak barrels. The result is a very drinkable sour beer hybrid with subtle peach tones and a warm, spicy finish. The aroma has pleasant hints of vanilla and tropical fruit, the wood characteristics are present but nicely muted.
Eric s Ale weighs in at 7% ABV and is best enjoyed while listening to the dulcet guitar work of Buckethead.

Appearance: Clear golden with a white head and some lacing
Aroma: Tart fruits
Taste: Sour fruit and some citrus
Not real balanced. Mouthfeel was thin and sour, no malts to back it up.

At last, a sour I like! Poured pale gold with thick fast dissipating white head. Spice aroma, much like a saison. Funky Belgian flavour with peach and hop notes. Lingering fruity finish. Another winner from New Belgium.

Draft @ Shefifeld’s, Chicago, IL. Pours a hazy orange color with a small white head. Has a fruity tart sour and slightly funky aroma. Fruity tart sour flavor with hints of citrus and weak hints of peaches. Has a fruity tart sour finish.

Cloudy orange with a tiny off white head. Sourish aroma with lacto, brett and sourish berries. Sourish flavour with brett, lacto, sourish berries, peach and malty hints. Finished sourish and dry.

Handbottle 21 cl. Courtesy of KimJohansen. Pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is spicy - again lavender? - with some peaches. Medium body, dry and fruity with a Bretty whiff. Dry and astringent, but again not really sour. 230410

Bomber - clear brunt orange - fizzy head - tart, lightly acetic aroma, with notes of oak and white wine - a very refreshing and balanced sour - moderate sourness and acidity allow the other characteristics to shine - white grapes, peach, oak, the lightest bit of funkiness - a lot of semi-dry white wine-like character - a wonderful balance of oak, fruit, and wildness, unlike a lot of other sours.

11th October 2008. GABF. Clear gold beer. Sharp but not overly sour or lemony. A nice sour ale that a non sour lover can really enjoy!

A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty combined with an acidity. The flavor is sweet and acidic with notes of fruit and malt, leadíng to a tart finish.

(11/3/08) Draught at Pizza Port in Carlsbad. Hazy orange with a white head. Aroma of brett, peaches and some citric notes. Sour flavor with lots of peaches, light lemony hints and some funk. A good refreshing one.

Tap @ Falling Rock, in wine glass. Color is hazy, dark golden . A few bubbles can be seen shooting around the beer. Aroma is very peachy, very fuzzy peach, lots of bretty sweet cobwebs. Sourness in the nose is calm, a bit of a muddy sourness gets caught up in the fuzziness and a rather thick maltiness. Taste is a bit of a disappointment. Still nice but not as good as the aroma. The sourness is lost a bit, a lightly muddy sweetness and fruit caught up in there. Some acidic-like quality. But I could keep smelling it for hours.
