Wood-Aged Sour Peach Ale
Eric s Ale, from the creative and slightly diabolical mind of brewer Eric Salazar, is the third offering in our Lips of Faith program. Lips of Faith is all about taking chances, breaking rules and being experimental kind of like being back in high school. Eric won the quarterly drink-off qualifier by correctly identifying which three beers in what percentage had been blended in his glass, earning him the right to brew whatever kind of beer he chose.
Having worked closely with our wood beer project, La Folie, Eric decided to play around with oak barrels. The result is a very drinkable sour beer hybrid with subtle peach tones and a warm, spicy finish. The aroma has pleasant hints of vanilla and tropical fruit, the wood characteristics are present but nicely muted.
Eric s Ale weighs in at 7% ABV and is best enjoyed while listening to the dulcet guitar work of Buckethead.

This beer is likable, interesting and refreshing. Unripe peaches, lemons, old oak barrels and traces of caramel and musty barnyard odors all come through in the aroma. The sour aromas are heavier on the oaky, vinegary, nearly lactic side of things. The peach aroma is natural.

Bottle (at long last... I have searched for you, my friend, for many moons... and finally...) Alright, so the anticipation is a bit much, but I’m kinda jazzed about this. Pours a dark gold, very clear, with very little head. Aromas are boozy, peachy and a little tart. Flavor is heavy with sweet honey malts and tart peaches and mangos, but it doesn’t gel quite as well as I would have hoped. It’s not bad, but somewhat disappointing. It’s a little overly boozy and a little overly sweet.

Courtesy of sebletitje. It pours clear gold with thin white head. The aroma is tart and rimmed with mild fruitiness, spiciness and faint dry gravel road. The taste seems sweeter than the aroma led onto with sweet berry fruitiness moving to modest berry tartness and a pleasing level of refreshing tartness. Nice refreshing brew.

Bottle. Pours a clear orange gold with small white frothy head that leaves spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is sour fruit and peach. Thin mouthfeel with a crisp sour fruit and nice bitter finish. Hides the alcohol well making it easy to drink. A very good Sour from New Belgium.

12 oz New Belgium snifter pour at Dunlay’s in the logan square neighborhood - Chicago, Illinois. Pour is glear golden with a clean white head that is pretty lasting. The aroma reminds me of La Folie, though obviously peach instead of cherry. Very nice bright sourness, along with the fruit of the peach. Behind is a nice caramel malt. The taste follows the nose, with prickly sour peach, nicely blended in the malt of the base beer. Palate is medium to thin bodied, with perfectly matched spritzy carbonation. Nice bright lactic sour though nicley balanced with the malt.

Hazy orange color. The aroma is sour, fruity, with light vanilla and roseflowers. The flavor is sourish, a bit astringent, woody, with residual sweetness, but less interesting than the aroma.

22oz Bottle pours a clear slightly orange copper color. A quick lively white head dissipates quickly. A small mat of white film is barely maintained by the lines of effervescence coming up. A mild fruity aroma with sourness that compliments nicely Not as dry and harsh as other "Sours" Very nice flavor of mild fruits, apple, pear and peach. Some spices too, but again, very soft and subtle. Significantly less dry and sour as others of the style. Even of it’s big brother La Folie. Drinkable and very tasty. Especially for those that think they don’t like "Sours" Lovely, but not dry enough for the purists

Bottle thanks to Suzygreenberg/Doodler. Pours a clear peach gold with a quickly dissipating white head. Carbonation is clearly visible in the beer. Aroma has sour and tart notes with not too much of a hint peach. Flavor begins with a tart note and a sweet peach note builds towards the finish. Overall it seems bit artificial tasting.

Bottle Pours out a clear amber/gold color topped with a small cream head. Aroma is nice a little funk and peach. Taste is light sour and tart notes a little of the peach and some sour white grape. A very good sour for first timers.
