Wood-Aged Sour Peach Ale
Eric s Ale, from the creative and slightly diabolical mind of brewer Eric Salazar, is the third offering in our Lips of Faith program. Lips of Faith is all about taking chances, breaking rules and being experimental kind of like being back in high school. Eric won the quarterly drink-off qualifier by correctly identifying which three beers in what percentage had been blended in his glass, earning him the right to brew whatever kind of beer he chose.
Having worked closely with our wood beer project, La Folie, Eric decided to play around with oak barrels. The result is a very drinkable sour beer hybrid with subtle peach tones and a warm, spicy finish. The aroma has pleasant hints of vanilla and tropical fruit, the wood characteristics are present but nicely muted.
Eric s Ale weighs in at 7% ABV and is best enjoyed while listening to the dulcet guitar work of Buckethead.

Location: Draft at Rogue Public House in San Fran, 5/12/11
Aroma: The nose is fairly malty, yeasty, with both sweet and sour notes
Appearance: The pour is hazy and amber with a beige head atop it
Flavor: It is balanced between sweet and sour upfront, but the finish is much more sour
Palate: The body on this one is fairly clean, it has a sticky mouthfeel, and a fairly dry finish to it
Overall Impression: I liked this one. We don't really get any of the interesting New Belgium beers on the East Coast (just the occasional Fat Tire or Mothership Wit). Well this one was quite interesting, and a very nice offering.

Black Hills Beer Fest - Pours a light golden color with a small sandy head. Aroma is dry and fruity with hints of peach and oak. Sour taste with peaches and light oak. The peach is not overwhelming, but the sweet and sourness of the fruit takes center stage. Dry and tart. Nice.

22oz bomber, Xmas present from Ann. Filtered orange-tan, small white head. Funky sour peach aroma, lots of barnyard tones. Very Belgian tasting, this is quite nice. Sour and slightly dry, the peach juice balances it out with the sweetness. Somewhat mellow carbonation. Tart finish, but not quite as overboard as a traditional Lambic. A little thin at times, with some peach juice tones. Quite unique and really well executed, quite a delicacy.
