Wood-Aged Sour Peach Ale
Eric s Ale, from the creative and slightly diabolical mind of brewer Eric Salazar, is the third offering in our Lips of Faith program. Lips of Faith is all about taking chances, breaking rules and being experimental kind of like being back in high school. Eric won the quarterly drink-off qualifier by correctly identifying which three beers in what percentage had been blended in his glass, earning him the right to brew whatever kind of beer he chose.
Having worked closely with our wood beer project, La Folie, Eric decided to play around with oak barrels. The result is a very drinkable sour beer hybrid with subtle peach tones and a warm, spicy finish. The aroma has pleasant hints of vanilla and tropical fruit, the wood characteristics are present but nicely muted.
Eric s Ale weighs in at 7% ABV and is best enjoyed while listening to the dulcet guitar work of Buckethead.

Hand bottled in plastic bottle, from Flaco Alto. Amber color. Lemon, peach and a hint of caramel in the aroma. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel. Peaches, lemon, melon, traubenzucker and some flowery hops in this moderately sour, rather complex brew. Some milk in the aftertaste. Loved this one.

Draught at Harry’s Hofbrau in San Jose. Clear copper with minimal white head. Moderate peach puree and slightly neutral oak in both the aroma and flavor. Tasty and well balanced.

At GABF 2015. They described it as wood aged rather than barrel aged. Lightly sour, just a little. refreshing. There is peach for sure. Low carbonation, fine for a three year old beer. I did not realize the alcohol was so high.

On tap at the Trappeze Pub. Clear, bubbly yellow, with a big, white head. The nose is lemon juice, light cherries, pine sap, cereals, and some musty character. Sweet and citrusy, with a sharp yet mellow sour flavor. Light body, very acidic and crisp, with a clean finish. This is a simple and straightforward sour, but well made and delicious.
