Bottle thanks to Russell. Pours a cloudy orange pink with small frothy white head. The aroma is strong oak and strawberry. Thin mouthfeel with nice tart strawberry, oak, and nice sour finish. Easy to drink, very good.

Bottle - Tart strawberry and dusty farmhouse funk. Cloudy orange gold with a nice rich beige head. Up front acidic sourness, fruit doesn’t really appear till the finish with is long and tart. Nice, mellows after the first few sips and is quite light and pleasant.

Sample at Kurtkeller 014: Almanac-tastic 01 on 06/27/2014. Hazy orange-amber color with a medium white head that burns away steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of strawberry, yeast and oak. Medium-bodied with flavors of semi-tart strawberries, oak and bready yeast. The finish is fruity with a strawberry aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Bottle @ home, picked up for $10 at Supermarket Liquor. Shared with LeninCat. Pours a turbid dark orange appearance with a quickly disappearing head. The aroma has a touch of acetic acid to go with some fairly distinctive tannic notes. Dark grape, plum, and berry are the most prevalent fruit notes in the nose, though it’s not all that sweet smelling. I’m also not sure I would have been able to identify strawberries as the berries they use. Some vanilla notes from the barrels as well. The flavor has fairly low sweetness and bitterness. Moderate to highly sour. Not a soft strawberry flavor as I expected but more of an aggressive sour berry / grape / vinous flavors with noticeable tannins. Some vinegar though it is somewhat mild. Kind of a rough, abrasive flavor, even if it was still somewhat enjoyable. It wasn’t worth my $10 but it was fun enough to try.

I noticed LeninCat licking StalinCat’s rear end this morning and tried to file away that potentially useful information. Well, I was playing Super Nintendo and completely distracted when LeninCat finished licking the empty bottle and started helping himself to my glass. Based on his bottle experience, I was going to have him tick this beer at 2/5, but he seemed pretty enthused about the flavor from my glass. It did seem a bit too sour for his liking, as he got in a fit licking his chops and then his fur after drinking. I am planning on having LeninCat’s ticks use the full 1-5 scale a bit more thoroughly in the future, but I think a 3/5 is about where he was at with this one.

375 ml bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Pours a hazy orange/amber color with a finger of off-white head that fades fairly quickly. Aromas of strawberries, vinegar, a bit of wine, light floral notes. Tastes of strawberries, vinegar, wine, oak, lacto sourness. Medium-light body with a dry and tart finish. Well done, strawberries are nicely balanced and not over the top.

Bottle. Pours hazy hazel with a small soda-like fizzy head that dissipates quickly leaving minimal lacing. Aroma is tart lemon, a bit vinous, oak, perhaps some strawberry. Flavor is light tart, vinous, oaky, a bit of fruit but no real strawberry detected. Lightish body, hard carbonation. Just not getting the advertised complexity here.

Bottle from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy amber with a slight white head. Aroma is towards bretty, but mildly so. Strawberry is very light. Med body, or nearly. Flavor is sour, oaky, with hard to identify fruit. Maybe this is what strawberry vinegar would resemble. It’s finish tart, lightly sour, not bretty but likely related, and very smooth (in a tart/sour way). Another amazing ale from Almanac.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber. No head. This one is full of sweet fruit flavor, with a long sour finish. Sweet strawberry flavor, as expected. Juice like. Very drinkable. Very good. Another solid beer from Almanac.

Bottle. Hazed deep copper hue, large white head that slowly fadest to the acidity. Aromas are of really raw, underripe strawberries, hay, grassy, vanilla notes, mild manure, lots of funk, a little bit of pie cherry, jammy! Tart, funky, very mild chlorophenol. Strawberry lemonade with a lot of funk, wet wood, tart and juicy. Lively carbonation, tart, medium-low body, dry.
