Kings Canyon is a showcase of balance, starting with a fantastic bed of English malts for a caramel and biscuit sweetness. The American hop addition works in consonance, bringing forth a delightful resinous character with considerable citrus notes and floral hints.

On cask at Ryries Bar. Appearance - copper to amber, thin creamy white head. Nose - toffee, red fruit and bread. Taste - sweet red fruit, like red apple but going into strawberry jam. Marmalade too. Palate - medium bodied, surprisingly sweet. Overall - quite unexpected.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from the brewery website. Pours clear, light copper-gold with a small, foamy white head. Medium sweet flavour with nice bready, sun-kissed malts, a little arable, oily pine, ripening citrus. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Subtle piney resin to finish, more hearty malt backbone. Really tasty, drinkable, throwback kind of stuff.

Cask at Colmore, Brum. Aroma has citrus and rye with underlying caramel. Dark amber. Clear. Thin foamy white head. Spicy rye. Jammy sweetness. Underlying damp malts. Develops malt. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Slightly sticky. Soft carbonation. Long finish. Nice enough if verging on old school twiggy.

On cask at Port Street Beer House, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma is laid back, with bready malt and subtle English hops. Flavour is malty, with plenty of bready malt, toasted toffee notes, a touch of diacetyl that is acceptable in these English cask ales, and a balanced bitter and sweet finish. Pleasant.

Bottle picked up at the brewery. Clear pale amber. Slim lasting lacing white foam. Looks well. Sticky ripe stone fruit and some resinous notes. A bit jammy. Soft spicy malt backdrop. Taste has light jammy sweetness upfront turning into robust zesty citrus bitterness. Plenty of body here but clean and fresh too. Lingering orangey pithy zesty finish. Very much an old school US pale ale vibe going on. Lovely.

Rocky white head on an unclear slowly carbonating amber coloured body. Sweet, caramel & honey aroma. Medium bodied, smooth with a lively back. Red berry, citrus, zesty citrus, lime, caramel & light malt tastes. Such a well balanced beer & very quaffable.
