A classic bitter ale that, as Rob once said, is suitable for drinking at any time of the day. Not that we at all endorse a lunchtime beer, save it for special occasions, but you know what we mean - this beer is light and refreshing. At only 3.6% it's one of our lowest ABV beers in a bottle.
Starting with a simple malt bill of British grains we build on this with rather a lot of soft, delicate and low alpha hops from the UK, Poland and Germany for a layered and complex, yet still ever so refreshing, hoppy finish.
Like most of our beers the flavours build and build the further through the bottle(s) you get.
Malts: Maris Otter, Best Pale, Wheat
Hops: British, German, Polish

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a clear golden with an off-white head. Odd sulphury cabbage-like aroma - reads British yeast all over. Light body, a little fruity sweetness and again this sulphury note. Ends dry. 290911

Re-rate, Iām much more aware of how well integrated the yeast and the hops are on the long refreshing finish this times. There seems to be a particular yeast taste to Highland Brewing beers, in fact. This is an awesome drink which understates itself but has incredible balance. Previous rating 30/03/11 6/4/6/4/13 = 3.3 50cl bottle. Pours golden with light carbonation & a nice lacy head. The nose has sweet malt and gentle nettles. The taste is less malty but more nettles. The palate is light to medium bodied with proportional texture and a lovely refreshing finish. Overall, this is a beautifully balanced and sessionable beer. Less is more!

Half, hand pulled cask at Cask & Barrel Southside. Clear golden body. Low, lacing-head. Plain fruity hops to the nose. Oil-like fruity hops in flavour. Dry ending. Foamy and watered mouth feel (Edinburgh, 30.11.2010).

500 ml bottle, thanks to my beerpal Olav who brought it home from the Orkneys. ABV is 3.6%. Crystal clear golden colour, big to moderate white head. Pleasant aroma of fruity hops, notes of tropical fruits. Light bodied. Decent hoppy flavour, some fruitiness first, dry and "dusty" finish. Very nice for its moderate ABV.

Cask (handpump) @ Bow Bar, 80 West Bow, Edinburgh EH1 2HH, Scotland.Alc. 3.6%. Clear medium amber orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate hoppy, orange. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090410]
