Three Threads is inspired by the historic English pub ale of the same name, traditionally served as a combination of three beers drawn from separate casks. Our take is a blend of a port barrel-aged Barleywine Ale, a bourbon barrel-aged Porter, and a fresh India Pale Ale. Rich, full-bodied, and strong, this complex ale presents notes of date, bittersweet chocolate, and sherry with a balancing and roasty bitterness.

375ml bottle, takeout from Lamplighter's Cambridge brewpub, sipped at our hotel in North Conway, New Hampshire. Clear, deep amber with a tan topping. Nicely complex old ale with teasing dark caramel, port and subtle leather.. exceptional harmony of flavours, if a little mild flavoured overall.

Undated 375mL bottle from brewery, drunk 5/5/22. Clear, dark-amber-ruby with mahogany overtones and a light-tan head that is small, slowly receding to cover then ring. C-hops, light oxidation and, in general, a lot of barleywine character. Primarily heavy caramel malt with floral and spicy hop notes on the finish. Fruity, not too much barrel character with no alcohol or flaw. Chewy barleywine with intense caramel flavor and candy-like port barrel balanced with fresh, citrusy and spicy hops. The IPA seems to lighten the body, which I guess is a good thing. It's clean, pretty well-constructed/blended, but I don't know, I just don't get anything terribly interesting here. Not that every beer has to be a study in complex character, but there is just an awful lot of caramel and candy-like sweetness here with just a dusting of C-hop bitterness. Even some roast or bourbon from the porter thread would be highly appreciated here.

Pours deep mahogany into a tulip. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to sicken surface. Sweet vanilla, fig and bourbon aromas. Thick with sweet molasses, fig, date tangy anise and hot vanilla upfront turning to slick oak and bourbon in the warming medium length finish.
