A rebrew of one of our maiden releases, this westie is new school meets old school. Munich and Vienna malt bring some sweetness and amber colour, which is balanced by a firm, lingering but clean bitterness.

Simcoe and Centennial pop with retro pine sap notes and grapefruit whilst a hot side addition of Idaho 7 introduces a touch of ripe mango. Talus in the dry hop offers the best of both worlds offering notes of orange zest, grapefruit and mango.

Tap at Sommar, Waterloo St, Birmingham. Mostly clear gold, white top. Very much grapefruit noted this one with some stone fruits and resin. Has a light herbal medicinal element in the finish, moderate bitterness for the style. Not bad.

Off white foaming head on a dull golden coloured body. Malt, orange & resinous aroma. Medium bodied, soft with a livelier cloying back. Pine, resin, malt, orange, bitter & herbal tastes. Nice.

440ml can. Clear golden, white head. Aroma of orange, resin, nice but very weak. Taste is quite resinous, orange and grapefruit, piney, a little marmalade, some sweet malts leading to a bitter finish. A very nice WC IPA, but a curiously weak aroma and lack of strong bitterness let it down from what it could be.

On tap at Nags Head. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has notes of earthy lime e and onion with a bit of grass underlying. Flavor has a combination of wet pine and onion with a bit of a grain backbone.

Can from The Hive, Crowthorne. They only started brewing at their own premises recently so this version was brewed at Little Monster. Aroma is resinous, woody. Some citrus and malts. Clear-opaque amber. Thick foamy white head. Medium-heavy bitter. Resin for days. Citrus edge. Gains some syrupy sweetness into the finish. Spice. Marmalade. Medium bodied. Slick. Long bitter astringent finish. Good stuff.

Keg @ Tap and Can. Pours a misty golden orange, off-white head. Bitter, floral grapefruit provides much of the character, distant resinous suggestions. Ok overall.

Can at The Hive Crowthorne, shared with Peter, 11th February 23. Pours an off clear orange. Aroma is orange, candy, light resin. Taste is citrus, medium bitter light resin. Lacking a bit of oomph, but not bad, would prefer a west coast is a west coast and not a meeting of the east
