Harking back to times of old and a Christmas soon to come, we’re introducing another rare treat from our Vault, a two year old Calvados Barrel Aged Old Ale. Sitting elegantly in our new 375ml bottles, this is the perfect beer to drink by the fire at the end of an evening. And if you’re feeling generous, it makes an incredibly classy gift for your favourite beer lover (even if that is yourself).

375ml bottle @ Chez Sophie. Pours dark with a receding deep tan head. Confident nose full of dried dark fruit, calvados and oaky hints. Quite boozy initial impressions, dark malt.. expected more of a moist cakey malt body but comes across a touch thin and lacking in that respect. It's a lovely sipper, perhaps served less cool, at room temp perhaps, these flavours would open up.

Bottle split at Pigs Ear '22, day one, 29/11/22. Big thanks to our Kenny. Black with a tan head. Nose is stewed fruits, dark malts, Calvados nip, herb, cocoa powder. Taste comprises dark malts, chocolate, kick of booze, caramelised orchard fruit tang, good subtle barrel. Full bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced boost level. Solid kit.

Pigs Ear. Bottle. Opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is smooth and fairly dry, good fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, some dark chocolate and dark chocolate cream. A little earthyness in the mid. Spicy Calvados brings up the back end. Fresh estery apple and boozy apple liqueur. Finishes smooth, semi dry and spicy. Nicely Calvados BA, only minor complaint is the base beer feels Stoutish. Nice job

Bottle shared at Pigs Ear 2022 - day 1. Big thanks to Kenny. Pours black with a dense, creamy beige head. Medium sweet flavour with ample dark malts, some apple, dark berries, burnt wood, ash. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine, massaging carbonation. Warming finish, more dark malts, barrel, berries, apple. Tasty sauce.
