Can from the Green Goddess, Blackheath Royal Standard. Aromas of dark chocolate, smoke, prunes, icing sugar, plum jam.Uber sweet taste of sweet tobacco, prunes, liquorice toffee, more icing sugar.Heavy going liqueur-esque brew.Boozy throat warming action. It would be a lot nicer without the harsh lozenge backdrop.

Keg at message in a bottle, cleethorpes. Pours oily black with a thick tan head. Aromas of heavy coffee, dark chocolate, prunes and blackcurrant. Taste is rich and boozy, hazelnut and chocolate. A dessert beer.

Can courtesy of Baz, he picked this up from Hereford Beer House, consumed in the company of Jude and Baz at Camping Leutasch, Austria, Saturday 16th August 2025. Bottle at home. Yeah this as Baz predicted is a monster of a beer, burnt bitter slabs of caramel, big thick mouthfeel. Wow this is a bitter Impy', in terms of the bitterness for a non IPA it reminds me of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. The appearance is pitch black, there's a little roasty coffee, chocolate and the aforementioned caramel. I like it, it's very good beer, but wowsers that bitterness is a real punch and one that instantly tempers the sweetness.

Can from Fuss Club at home. I have wanted to try this for a while and it hasn’t disappointed. Jet black with a thick head. Rich sweet to bitter chocolate. Rich full body. And soo smooth. It’s a classic.

On tap at Hanging Bat, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out deep roast, intense molasses, and dry cocoa. Flavour is full of deep molasses, cocoa, and moderate roast. The ABV is impressively reigned. Beautifully done.

On keg at the Wee Vault. Appearance - solid jet black. not much head. Nose - molasses, burnt wood, leather and roasted malts. Taste - burnt wood, roast and some sweetness via a molasses and liquorice note. Palate - full bodied, dry and roasty. Surprisingly not very boozy. Overall - a bit gnarly, but quite impressive overall.

Keg @ Coracle, Ironbridge. Pours very dark brown, oily, viscous looks, no head. Lovely aroma, hints of treacle, chocolate. It's always a bit daunting taking a sip of something so strong but this is surprisingly easy-drinking, hard to believe it's anywhere near 17%. Moderately sweet with harmonious desert-like flavours but seems to lack a certain depth of flavour, with almost no carbonation coming across a bit flat. Fine overall.

Opaque dark brown beer, a few dark tan bubbles don't come anywhere near to forming a head. Palate is suspiciously light for the very hefty abv and is almost flat carbonation wise. Smooth dark malts, a kind of cheap tasting dark chocolate. Sweet candy fruits and some mild esters. Whisper of sweet coffee. Smooth finish. Ummmm.. yeah, no alcohol spice no alcohol heat but this is 17%? Nah I don't think so. Just a sweet and flat Impy that is clunky but not something I find myself actively disliking. Curious affair.
