Bottle 750ml. @ home on the terrace.[ As Lottrup US Style Belgian Dubbel ].Clear medium to dark red brown colour with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, flowers, moderate yeasty, dark fruit, belgium yeast, sweet yeast. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate too light light heavy bitter with a average to long duration, dark fruit, belgium yeast, flowers, caramel, candy. IMO: a odd beer because I get a bit belgium yeast character, that has to much malt extract - and hop extract bitterness ! Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. Bottle 75 cl. Pours a clear, orangey brown with an off-white head. Kinda roasty, bitter nose. Medium body, again roastiness as te dominant feature with some late bitterness. Royal-Unibrew calls these beers American interpretations of a Belgian Blonde and Dubbel, but what they do is that they remove all characteristics that should have made them these styles, no yeasty, estery complexities and for the Dubbel, no dark, dried fruits. Instead they use some completely generic yeast that leaves the beers dead or at least totally uninspired. No American interpretations I've had of these styles have had the disrespect to do so, so I have no clue why these should be called US-style. This is simply a rather poor, strong Brown Ale. Period. As a Dubbel it fails miserably. 300619
