Bottle. Very surprised that I haven;t had this one before. Pours a hazy auburn with a fluffy, tan head. Good retention and lace. Aroma of hops (indistinguishable), rye, rye bread, caramel, very faint dark fruits and mild brandy type thing going on. Taste is malty and caramely, with dark fruits and rye spiciness. Hops are not very up front, but there is some lingering bitterness. I don’t think this is a super fresh bottle. Viscous/syrupy mouthfeel, light bubbles. A bit sticky. Seems closer to a hoppy barley wine than a IIPA

Bottled: Pours dark amber with a small head. Sweet and malty aroma with notes of hops and toffee. Sweet and thick mouthfeel. Very malty and at the same time very bitter. Flavour has notes of toffee, liquorice and a little bit of chocolate. Hey, this DIPA almost seems balanced!

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel-orange colro wtih a huge orange-beige head. The aroma was dry floral hops and light sour malts. The flavor was dry, bitter and fruity hops with a light piney hops, chocolate, caramel, spice and pineapple underneath. The finish was long and bitter with notes of grapefruit and pineapple. The mouthfeel was moderately thick. Well done.

Bottle, Utobeer, London. Definite extra marks for paying homage to one of the comedy greats. Poured a very dark amber colour. Aroma was fruity and boozy with a whole load of hops..Sweetish flavour with a peppery slant with yet more bitter hops and a bit of citrus; alcohol evident and noticable, caramel malt and rye too. Quite a complex drop this. Finished drying. I think LB would have approved; as in the words of the great man.... The "what should be" never did exist, but people keep trying to live up to it. There is no "what should be," there is only what is.

Pours clear amber with thick creamy tan head. Aroma has plenty of rye, malts with notes of caramel. Taste, thick rye mouthfeel, heavy dose of hops with underlying fruits (grapefruit, subtle citrus), all balanced out with good malty notes. Overall leaves a thick creamy taste. After taste has some warming notes of possible dark fruits coupled with a good 10% kick.

Super deep amber coloured body with a dense off-white head. Aroma of tons of hops, caramel malt, alcohol, brandy and yes...even a bit of rye. Full-bodied; Sharp taste of metal, malt, caramel and very potent rye. Very strong flavours throughout with alcohol and rye being the most potent. Overall, a very hoppy and strong rye-based pale - good for those rye lovers, not good for those with discriminating palates ;-) I sampled this 65 cL bottle puchased at Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 06-November-2006.

22 cL bottle. Clear and golden amber with a lacing white head. Hoppy and slight woody aroma. Vague citrusy note too. Smooth and dry malty base flavour with a distinct and solid hops spiced bitter flavour on top. Dry and bitter finish with a dark fruity note and a solid wooden base into the far finish.
