On tap at Capitol City Brewing. Pours a clear deep brown with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has dark grains with light roast, a bit of rye and a bit of sweetness underlying. Flavor has slightly sweet dark grains, light roast and a bit of rye in the finish.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, three centimetre tall deep tan head with an 90% opaque deep brown glow. Aroma of strong chocolate, cocoa, rye, roasted malt, coffee, earth, nuts and a big deal of cherries and lactose - nice and pungent throughout. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong chocolate, earthy and nutty flavours with a lot of rye/grain and malt noticeable near the end, all with a lot of alcohol pungency, cocoa and malt with some sugars at the tail end. Aftertaste shows a lot of chocolate, coffee, earth and especially nuts with some assertive alcohol still around. Overall, a nice, very rich beer, especially in a can with a complex flavour - nice to sample! I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Whole Foods in Fair Lakes (Fairfax), Virginia on 02-April-2016 for US$1,99 sampled at home in Washington on 02-September-2016.

Draft at Yard House-Springfield. Dark brown/black pour with small creamy beige head. Not picking up much on the nose. Taste likewise, weak for both rye and porter characteristics. Decent silky body accompanies some latent bitterness (and very late sourness), but that’s it. Surprised at the ratings on this.
