Brasserie d'Achouffe Houblon Chouffe IPA

Houblon Chouffe IPA

ABV: 9.0%   IPA - Belgian Out of Production
Highly sought-after by connoisseurs, Houblon CHOUFFE is a strong beer - 9% alc./vol., with a bitter and fruity taste. To recreate the bitterness of IPAs, we add three types of hops to our brews: Tomahawk, Saaz and Amarillo. Houblon CHOUFFE is the first Belgian IPA. Taste this magnificent beer and you can appreciate its subtle grapefruit note. This beer is also extremely popular as an ingredient in culinary dishes.

The gnomes of Fairyland may be little, but they have big, very big, personalities. HOUBLON CHOUFFE matches their impish spirits. All gnomes, with their innate good taste, are in full agreement about HOUBLON CHOUFFE, which is flavoured by three different types of hops. This India Pale Ale is appreciated for its pronounced bitterness combined with the fruity tones of traditional Achouffe beers: it softens the strongest of characters.

75 cl bottle. Blonde, huge foamy head. Lemon, cream and red berries in the aroma. Initial malty sweetness attacked by an almost oily hoppiness. Cream, lemon and red berries. Long oily yet floral hopbitter aftertaste. The fruit, the power of the hops and the sweetness partly hide the alcohol. This bottle was worth every cent of its almost 9 Euros.

I think this is the prototype for the style. I love belgians, but these ipas aren’t my thing, it tastes a bit too chalky for me. online belgian beer factory

On tap at Bierhuis Uppsala Pours hazy yellow with white head. Nice Belgian IPA. Yeasty in a Belgian way, hoppy punch. Good.

0,33 l bottle. Pours hazy light golden yellow with big lasting frothy off white head. Aroma is mix of Belgian tripel base - yeasty, malty, bready, light candied fruit - and a hefty dose of hop driven aroma - lemon zest, orange, fruity in general. Flavor is more toward malt, sweet malty with rich esters, candied and dried fruit. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter. Body is full, texture slick, carbonation average. Finish is quite long, dry, hoppy and bitter. Excellent!

Bottleshare @ Yggdrasil Brewing pre-open. Pours whitish creamy, some white foam on top. Nose is fresh, hoppy and displays also some herbal character + Belgian yeast. Quite hoppy, so it has more than average bitterness there, lingering a bit in the finish, dry and resiny. Overall a simple Belgian, not too bad at all.
