On tap at the brewpub, pours a dark cola brown with some cloudy, ringing off white head. Nose makes you wonder... it's a touch sweet, malt, rootbeer candies, a little smoke, some butterscotch. Flavor has more smoke, a bit more roast, but just too much butterscotch, the hop is there finally, but it's more piney than anything. Finishes a bit on the sweet side. A touch off, especially for the style.

Cask-conditioned, on gravity, at the Tucker’s Maltings Beer Festival, 15/4/2016. Near black in colour, with a decent, beige, head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, citrus fruits and a touch of pine. Flavour of fruitcake malts, more citrus fruits and chocolate, leading to a dryish finish. Good.

Cask HP at the Fat Pig, Exeter. It pours near black with a thick beige head. The nose is rich, earthy roast, burnt pine, liquorice, umami and cacao nibs. The taste is bitter, roasted malts, umami, salted liquorice, dark fruits, cacoa nibs, plum and peppery spice with a dry, roasted finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Flavoursome and well - rounded. A very decent cda.
