This traditional German style doppelbock was first brewed in the 17th century and consumed by monks during lent. It is made with roasted malts, which create the dark brown color and rich malty flavor with hints of chocolate, dried fruit and caramel. In addition, a well-hidden hop bitterness and a balanced, smooth finish make this brew truly one of a kind.

Pours dark mahogany into a stem glass. Mocha head with good retention recedes to coat surface. Molasses, licorice and soy aromas. Slick with dark caramel, raisins and prunes upfront turning to hot toasted pumpernickel in the soft, lasting finish.

2025 bottle from Livonia Liquor. Pours a deep amber to chestnut with a finger of beige head that dissipates slowly. Lovely nutty aromas with toasted caramel, faint smoke along with some mild dried apricot aromas. Palate is similar with a nice dry finish. Very enjoyable.

Draught. Opaque dark brown with a foamy tan head, caramel aroma, medium carbonation, initially sweet caramel malt taste that goes medium bitter with alcohol undertones, smooth body, long medium bitter caramel finish. Smooth and easy to drink.

Clear, filtered, dark hazelnut with ruddy, auburn hues. Small-to-medium-sized, dark beige head.
Roasted nuts and light chocolate with good malt and lots of dry, bready, crusty notes to balance. Bit of tart, melanoidin-like acidity and light prune and oily roast. No alcohol, pretty good balance.
Malty, with lots of bitterness, lots of roast, lots of peanut and hazelnut. Medium-to-medium-full body with good attenuation. Good acidity and dryness and tons of tart fruit. Easy drinking and interesting with the huge fruity acidity adding an unusual twist.
