Look: clear deep gold, moderate white frothy head of average retention. Aroma: malt, Belgian spicy yeast, catty hop, a touch of candy. Phenolic hints. Taste: light to medium sweet, malty, candy, spicy yeast, hop. Light plus ending bitterness. Palate: medium body, average carbonation. Overall: not a bad one. Well balanced.

Cheapo 500ml can from Carrefour, Steenvoorde. Clear gold, white head. Strong sweet yeasty aroma, continuing to form a floral citrussy, yeasty character overall. I really didn't want, or expect to like this, but there's nothing really to complain about, apart from the fact it's made by Carlsberg in Poland, a long way from Belgium.

Grimbergen Pale Ale.

50cl can from Rimi, Laagri. Pours clear golden with a white head. Mild fruity and malty aroma with hints of caramel and citrus. Moderate to medium sweet with rather low flavour intensity and ditto bitterness. Fair enough.

A dark yellow beer, a head is medium and blond. Aroma has fruitness, spicyness and light earthyness. Taste has the same elements, fruitness, spicyness, earthyness, dry enough. Medium bodied. Pretty nice.

Bottle, 0.33l. Cloudy copper pour, one finger soapy white head, short lasting. Little to no lacing on the glass. Nice on the nose, floral and spicy, fruity background, a bit on the sweet side. Thin to medium body, soft carbonation. Average mouthfeel and texture, lightweight and quite drinkable. Balanced bittersweet taste with subtle herbal spicy note to it. Aroma of malt, belgian yeast, herbs and spices. Floral, earthy. Minerals. Citruses in the background. Short lasting finish, dry, mild spicy. Quite solid.

I know this is ultra-commercial and not even Belgian but French, but I must say it's actually quite well done. It pours crystal-filtered dark golden with a heavy lacing but short-lived off-white head. Aroma is rather dank mixed with that Belgian ale quality: on the dank side, grass and spruce; on the Belgian one, cardamom and bread and lemon and mint. Mouth is full-bodied, balanced and long-lasting, with newer hints of coriander and pine needle. I like it.

Bottled 250ml. -from Super U Chamonix. Clear golden coloured, medium sized white head, mild perfumed yeasty nose. Sweet malty, light caramel, slightly yeasty and grassy with slightly fruity notes in the finish. Usual Grimbergen yeasty character but drinkable.
