In the last century, British brewers made strong stouts for the Czar's Court. They were called Imperial Stouts. Our Black Chocolate Stout, brewed once yearly for the winter season, achieves a chocolate aroma and flavor through the artful blending of six varieties of black, chocolate and roasted malts.

2002 bottle, cellared long ago. Though not barrel-aged, it has a nice bourbony smell, with cherry cordial on the side. Solid black pour, very thin ring of foam at the edge. After the thick, warming smell, the taste is a bit thin. Still nice, but not a match to the nose. A bit flat after 23 years, but still some chocolate roast, no excess roastiness.
