To illustrate the difference between region and growing conditions, we have begun the Many Ways series, which seeks to brew single-hop beers with hops sourced from specific growing regions and farms. Part Two contains Nelson Sauvin, grown exclusively by our friends at Eggers Hops in the Upper Moutere region of New Zealand's South Island. Eggers Hops has an enigmatic quality that is so punchy and unique that it's hard to understand without visiting his farm. They grow in difficult soil conditions, and the stress produces a unique Nelson expression.
We hope you enjoy it and compare it to other entries forthcoming in the series!

16 oz can. Thanks for muling this for me Clarkvv! Wonderful, fresh scent of white wine grapes, mild orange, and straw. Flavor is bright with citrus, bold white grapes and a soft mineral note. Semi dry texture with zero bitterness. A fantastic expression of Nelson Sauvin.

Canned 8/28/24, drunk 9/27/24. Near-milky, near-turbid pour with a frothy, fairly well-retained, white head. BIG mineral with dry white wine and unripe passion fruit. Juicy, bright, spicy, lovely. This is excellent Nelson. There's no off notes here that you might get from Nelson, such as too much pine, too much chalk, too much lemongrass. Just mineral galore with a good helping of fruity yeast and supple malts behind it, gently adding light honey-like character. Spicy, juicy, surprisingly approachable and soft. There's a lot more fruitiness and pineapple than I'd usually expect from Nelson. No massively dry, chalky mineral, though, of course, there's still plenty of mineral. Not sure where bookman is getting garlic, but everyone's taste receptors are different, for sure. I'm just getting lingering tropical fruit skin, white grape and lemon with tons of spice and pepper. Clean, polished, deep malts with appropriate attenuation.
Great juice with some greenness to it, which cuts the sweetness. Fantastic. Gooseberry goodness.
Juicy, earthy, grapeskin, citrus, nice soft mouthfeel with a long bitter finish. Nice.

Pours a hazy, soft lemon-banana yellow, with mid-sized, lasting, fluffy white head. Aroma is citrus and tropical fruit, with an almost gassy, garlic note. Flavors follow, with the garlicky note a bit more prominent. Soft mouthfeel. Mild to moderate hop bitterness through the finish.
