Continuing our exploration into the world’s many styles of lagers, this is our first ever Mexican Style lager in cans. The malt bill for this beer consisted of German pils, Vienna malts, local flaked corn, and a touch of chocolate malt to add a roasty quality to this beer. In the boil, we used German Magnum and Hallertau Mittelfruh hops, and finally fermented it with a Mexican lager yeast. A clean, dark chocolatey aroma can be found up front, followed by toasty malt flavors fading into a German hop bitterness on the finish.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to lager glass.
Appearance: dark brown/dark red color with a three finger eggshell white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: dark malts, sweet grains, some breadiness, some chocolate to cocoa powdery tones, and a little bit of apple
Flavor: melds the prior noted aromas to a variety of different sweet aspects then a light touch of some earthy roastiness underneath; finishes semi-crisp with some dryness and a little bit of cocoa powder
Texture: light to medium bodied; sessionable; light smoothness and some dryness gripping the tongue
Overall: pretty nicely done dark lager I could return to.

16 oz can. Shows amber color with fast dying head. Aroma shows me apple and soft caramel. Mild flavor of sweet grain and lager yeast backbone. Lighter body and shows an earthy finish.

Pours deep mahogany into a willi. Pancake head with good retention recedes leaving sheet lacing. Chocolate covered pit fruit aromas. Medium bodied with milk chocolate, licorice and dried pit fruit upfront turning to chocolate dusted almonds in the dry, medium length finish.

Canned 3/27/24, drunk 4/27/24. Clear, dark amber. Large, well-retained, beige head. Fruity chocolate and fresh herbs with baked bread and honey. Not too heavy-handed with the dark malts. Very low/minimal roast. Very clean. Snappy finish. Well-carbonated, maybe a bit too much so. Light chocolate and plentiful grass and bitter herb. Oddly bitter finish, as Mansquito notes. Yeah, just a BIT too much excess bitterness, though it's not all that problematic. Excellent malt depth and attenuation with mostly base malt character and a pinch of chocolate thrown in.
