Black Tuesday is the perfect canvas for creativity in liquid form. 24k Tuesday was inspired by everyone’s favorite seems-healthy-but-isn’t dessert, carrot cake! Or rather, 24 karat cake, because it’s as good as gold if you ask us. This rich imperial stout was aged in bourbon barrels then treated with fresh carrots, walnuts, milk sugar for creaminess, raisins, and just a pinch of spice for a tasty treat, Black Tuesday style.
Tasting Notes:
The simple elegance of Black Tuesday makes it the ideal canvas for adjuncts. The next in this year’s Small Batch Black Tuesday treatment series, crafted exclusively for Society members, 24k Tuesday was inspired by the familiar flavors of a freshly-baked carrot cake. Pouring a full-bodied jet black, the nose is immediately loaded with sweet aromas and a light amount of carrot. The addition of spices and milk sugar mimic the aroma of the creamy, buttery frosting. The flavors hit the inspiration on the head with abundant sweet notes laced with a hint of raisin, and carrot, and a subtle walnut finish.

Panda at home, thanks to the Kenneth, 25/08/2025.
Pitch black topped with a golden to khaki head that veers to the edge.
Nose is chocolate, nutmeg, brown sugar melt, carrot cake, toffee, molasses.
Taste comprises minced fruits, brown sugar, herb, spice, carrot shavings, chocolate, booze, dark malts, carrot cake icing, dates, figs.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a rising balanced boost.
Fun pastry that pulls off the carrot cake angle well.

Opaque dark brown beer, small and short lived tan head. When the head dies back (about 2 seconds after the pour) we get to particles of carrot floating about. Well then, that is a first. Nose is boozy carrot cake, well carrot cake soaked in bourbon. Palate is relatively light for a brew well north of 15%< light and mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Airy dark malts, some dark chocolate and dark malt cream, a little mild chocolate. Tangy spices, cinnamon obvious. Sweet carrot sits slightly apart but has not been banned from the party. Vanilla and ripe bourbon soaked fruits on the finish along with some inevitable alcohol spice. Full on carrot cake Impy. It works well, certainly not over sweet, the bourbon barrel really gives this a grown up slant. Impressive pastry, goes beyond the usual tropes.

Astringency from either the old lactose or the spices, and overly sweet when cold but astringency increases when it warms up while the sweetness mellows out. Either way not great flavor and not great chunkiness.
