There will be initial toast and bready notes on the nose, followed by red berries and lemon. The taste is full and round, and those red berries and redcurrants become more pronounced. The bitterness is soft and smooth, and a touch of citrus lemon balances the spice and charred maltiness.

Can from the always well laid out Adnams Store, this one in an atmospheric corner building by the main road as it turns into the town centre in Holt. Deeper golden with a head. Traditional to an extent, with a citrus kick providing a fruity element to what otherwise might have been a deeper bitterness than the one it has.

Keg at The Hole in the Wall, Waterloo. Aroma has low key fruit. Slightly bitter edge. Underlying shy malts. Clear light gold. Foamy translucent white head. Light bitter. Grainy. Slightly woody. With an equally limp citrus streak. Light. Thin. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Borefest. And ideas smoked? Really?!

Handpull cask at Peterborough Beer Festival 2024. Pours near clear amber gold with beige foam. Aroma: pale malts, citrus, wood smoke, red berries, slight cherry. Taste: light to moderate sweet & bitter, the smokiness comes through nicely. Towards dry on the palate. Medium body with soft carbonation. Enjoyed this one.
