The result is a pleasingly complex dark ale, with plenty of roast character and sweet dark molasses. Soft and full-bodied, with hints of dried fruits and dates. Rich, dark and warming.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson's Green, London, 19 Nov 2023) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, dark bread, raisins and a touch of port wine. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, raisins, prunes, toffee, port wine and a gentle spicy bitterness. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty, warming and well balanced. Very nice.

Cask at North Snow Hill. Aroma is interesting - malts combine with BBQ and bacon. Glossy opaque cola brown..Delicate but thick for off-white head. Sour. Tart. Berries. Charcoal and gravy streak. Underlying malty hints. Light. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long astringent finish. Ermm... kinda odd. Berries and a watered-down ashtray.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 22nd September 2023. Deep reddish brown with almost no foam or lace. Spiced roasty malt aroma. Tangy spices, roastiness and liquorice in-mouth, with a finish of the same. An apple touch. Medium bodied with a flattish texture.
