Bottle. Wouldn't swear on it in court but I think I ordered it from Hop, Burns & Black. Aroma has bitterness, but not Trev's wife has left him, something else. Sticky yeasty molasses. Coffee. Cola brown pour. Ends dark and opaque. Medium-heavy bitter. Black coffee. Cacao. Develops liquorice. But subsequntly we have this weird earthy nutty quality, kinda like if you got drunk, hijacked a time machine and then forced yourself on the unbisqued pottery in Poole. An ethereal tang in the tail-end. But it's lacking something... does not pique my interest. Actually, I've now changed my mind. It's like sucking on an underpowered salt liqourice - boiled not chewy (so we're talking Danish or Swedish rather than Finnish confectionery). Medium bodied. Creamy but chalky. Someone has not stirred before serving. Average-fizzy carbonation. Although to be frank, this guy is spent, the fizz is ebbing. Long somewhat astringent finish. Pwwwrrr. Can see what they were aiming for but, I dunno, at some point some boring ducker (thank you, spellchecker) came along and ruined things and all the fun fizzled out.

(Draught at Mother Kelly's, Bethnal Green, London, 19 May 2023) Dark reddish brown colour with creamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dark bread, chocolate and roasted grain. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, chocolate, dark bread, orange peel and a generous roasty bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, quite dry. Rich and tasty, quite bitter and drier than expected. Solid and well made porter. Very nice.

Keg at Mother Kelly’s Bethnal Green. Pours clear, deep brown with a creamy, tan head. Medium sweet flavour, lightly ashy, some cocoa, earth, coffee. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, subtle ashy roast, cocoa, more earthy bitterness, dark malts. Not bad.
