Imperial oatmeal stout sugared with the apparently highly acclaimed brown sugar from Okinawa, where the cultivated sugar cane seems to produce a higher sugar content than in most other places; from a brewery I had not yet heard of, thanks Meeki for sharing! Pale grey-beige, tiny-bubbled, open, thinnish head on a very dark mahogany brown beer, blackish, but still translucent with burgundy glow. Aroma of teriyaki, burnt toast, dry caramel, roasted bamboo salt, beech nuts, beef stock cubes, brown bread, dried fig, something sweaty, fish sauce. Sweetish, rounded onset, prune and raisin notes surrounded by soy sauce-like umami, even a touch of salty fish sauce; soft carb, smooth oily mouthfeel. Dry-caramelly, beech-nutty, toasty malt and oatmeal slickness, sweetish but not as sweet as expected considering an exclusive form of brown sugar is highlighted here; umami and slight saltiness linger around as well as roasty bitterness, which nonetheless remains relatively mild. Peppery hop bitter accents and some warming alcohol round things off. Interesting one, very slick and smooth with more pronounced umami than cane sugar - I wonder if it is worthwhile to apply such an expensive and special sugar with so little effect, to be honest.

Bottle. Color: Black, very thin light brown head. Aroma: Roasted malt, earthy, molasses. Taste: Very smooth, dense (oat), roasted malt, molasses (sugary), earthy. Moderate to over moderate hopbitterness and over moderate to medium sweet. Lightly salty. Dry-ish finish. Full body, below average carbonation. Ok Imperial Stout.
