Last year our cellar of sour beers included a ruby coloured un-hopped beer that had produced a distinctively high level of acidity after several months in oak. Nettles were added in the early stages to add an extra dimension to its flavour profile. In the late summer of 2016 we added local Blackberries picked along the Suffolk lanes close to the brewery. These were added directly to the barrels as we thought the sharp fruity flavours would enhance this already mouth puckering beer. The extra sugars in the fruit prolonged the fermentation another 5 months, added a purple hue and subtle but detectable blackberry jam note. Be warned this beer is VERY SOUR!

Bottle from the Star and Garter, Bromley. Drank at home. Dark brown pour no head. Nose of blackberry jam, black cherries, blackberries, raspberry. Lots of tart red and black berries, raspberries. Tart, dry finish. Good.

Brought all the way to Toronto by my Secret Santa cousin Bella from the Grumpy Goat in Reading. Thanks, alot! I'm super excited to try this one, nettles, really? Awesome. Pours coffee-dark with no head and not much in the way of visable carbonation. Vinager and a little berry fruit on the nose. First sip is quite the sour punch. I think there was some coffee in there before my lips retracted into my face... A few sips later and I'm still getting a touch of coffee, tart sourness dominating with some berry in the back end. And it lingers. It's lacking subtly, but well worth the try.

Bottle from the beerhive. Nose is blackberry, cherry, blackcurrant, red grapes. Palate is pretty sour cherry, blackberry, pomgrenade. This is just the perfect amount of sour. If it had more carbonation it would have completely destroyed it.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines. Deep chocolate brown colour with a thin head. Aroma and taste is berry sour and slight herby. Full body slightly sharpe.
