Last year our cellar of sour beers included a ruby coloured un-hopped beer that had produced a distinctively high level of acidity after several months in oak. Nettles were added in the early stages to add an extra dimension to its flavour profile. In the late summer of 2016 we added local Blackberries picked along the Suffolk lanes close to the brewery. These were added directly to the barrels as we thought the sharp fruity flavours would enhance this already mouth puckering beer. The extra sugars in the fruit prolonged the fermentation another 5 months, added a purple hue and subtle but detectable blackberry jam note. Be warned this beer is VERY SOUR!

Bottle. Bar Stewards, Sheffield. Opened without a noise. Pours a flat looking, dark copper colour. No head. Nose has cardboard. Red wine vinegar. Rotten berry fruit. Some phenols. Taste is tart, and sour. Drying and acidic on the palate. Almost flat. Sharp sour finish. No enjoyment to be had from this whatsoever. Down the sink it goes.

Bottle at Leighton's pad thanks to Dirty D. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The aroma is earthy, yet sweet, tangy, sugary, sour candy, bramble and some green veg. The taste is crisp, dry, decent mouth - pucker, sherbet, granny smith apple, lemon sherbet, bramble and light greenness. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty interesting stuff. Works alright.
