As the creators of the first-ever bourbon barrel-aged stout, we have long sought to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of beer. That’s why, when crafting this year’s 2024 Bourbon County Brand Cask Finish Stout, we were thrilled to work with our friends at Bardstown Bourbon Company.

Drawing inspiration from Bardstown’s modern and creative spirit in finished whiskeys, this imperial stout takes the same journey as their Origin Series Rye. We began by aging our imperial stout in Bardstown’s freshly emptied straight rye whiskey barrels. From there, we transferred the beer to “hybrid” oak and cherry wood barrels that finished their rye whiskey. These incredibly expressive barrels deliver a remarkable finish unlike anything seen before in the Bourbon County family. A beautifully balanced beer, Bourbon County Bardstown Cask Finish Stout is deeply expressive with vibrant cherry, toasted oak and a lingering herbal finish.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle.
Aroma is rich and malt forward with lots of dark chocolate, toast and lighter notes of dark caramel and toffee. Light cherry notes and roast. Medium light bourbon and lighter oak notes. Not too alcoholic in the aroma.
Pours a jet black color with dark brown hues on the edges and a small dark mocha head that recedes slowly to the edges and disappears. No lacing and sheets of alcohol instead of long legs.
Flavor is somewhat sweet with lots of dark chocolate, milk chocolate and roast notes. Lots of dark caramel, toffee and toast as well. Moderately high bitterness with medium high alcohol warmth. Quite a bit of bourbon notes and lighter barrels character. Hints of cherry.
Mouthfeel is full bodied with low carbonation. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth.
Overall, a solid BCBS. Tons of nice malt notes and bourbon character. Alcohol is well balanced and hidden. Not overly sweet. Just balanced and surprisingly easy drinking.

500 ml bottle. Thank you Adam! Also had the Bardstown bourbon next to it, thanks to TJ. Aroma shows very mild rye, toasted oak, mild chocolate malts. Flavor follows with plenty of Bardstown bourbon that shows very little alcohol for the 16%. The Bardstown Bourbon is smooth in itself, which reflects in this imperial stout.

Bottle shared by Johnny and Tom, thanks! Opaque pitch black color, no head. Aroma and flavor are malts, heavy bourbon, boozy, vanilla, oak. Full body, lightly oily texture. Quite good but too strong to drink a full bottle of yourself normally spoken.

Fles gedeeld door Keukeman, geprobeerd met Inoven en Benzai. Het is een diep donkerbruin bier met een aroma van Bourbon en vanille. De smaak is vol, Bourbon, vanille, eiken en een hint rood fruit.

On tap at Goose Island Salt Shed Pub, pours black with a tiny tan head. Aroma has a nice elegant bourbon barrel character: theres light smokiness, a touch of spiciness, and buried molasses. Flavour is elegant and complex, with a real nice bourbon barrel expression that dominates: moderate vanillin, subtle smokiness, plenty of toasted oak, with gentle residual sugars. Excellent bourbon expression on top of a classic base. Wonderful.
