This year marks the debut of a barleywine under the coveted Proprietor’s name. Having fallen in love with the popular Mexican spoon candy, brewer Colby Magratten crafted a recipe with our bourbon barrel-aged barleywine that blends together tamarind, lime, whole Guajillo chiles and piloncillo.
Chicago and the people who call it home are forever a source of inspiration in all that we do. 2024 Bourbon County Brand Proprietor’s Barleywine is a direct reflection of that inspiration and unlike anything we've ever done before. With a subtle dried fruit sweetness, refreshing lime zest and a delightfully warming finish, this barleywine is decidedly Chicago.

Bottle shared by CLW--thanks, Chris! Cola brown, no sparkle, head, nice viscosity, no lacing. Aroma is nice bourbon, caramel, raisin, sweet sugar. Taste is strong bourbon, caramel, lime, sweet fruit in good balance. Smooth texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste, faint chili warmth. Not exceptional but good.

500 ml bottle. Aroma is tamarind, mild pepper, and a very soft barrel. I’ve never had a tamarind margarita. Nor would I ever order a tamarind margarita. Not any in any way but… I have no point of reference. I mean they make this but I am still waiting for a Peanut Butter Cup Bourbon County? The fuck??
Keg at hopleaf. Pours deep ruby amber, nose is berries, caramel, vanilla, coconut, taste is similar, juicy fruit, sweet, hint of raisin. 8/9/9/9/8.5
A decent bil base with lime and chili. Neither of them are really offensive, but neither bring in anything positive either. Not bad but
Sweetish, malty and slightly caramely with warming chili, hints of lime, toffee, syrup, prunes and figs, mild barrel notes. A bit heavy and spicy, unbalanced and a bit messy
Bak alcohol, vanille, eik, limoen, gember, chili, chocolade, cacao, rozijntjes…

Bottle thanks to Neemo. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is chilis, cocoa, roast, booze. Similar flavors to nose, good.

Unlike the Macaroon, this show a bit of brown highlight around the black. Foam fades quickly here. Warming bourbon nose that easily overwhelmed the smooth malts. Taste is hearty bourbon with no harshness. Instead, nice warming alcohol. Is have missed the chiles if it weren't in the description. No wait, there it is. And then there's some refreshing citrus. I may indeed have to pick up some bottles when this starts getting discounted.
