Shared bomber. Complex palate of malt, vanilla, cocoa, coffee and more, but all notes were subdued including the rye whiskey. I would have enjoyed it even more if something stood out. Overall, a good beer but not outstanding in competitive barrel-aged RIS field.

500 ml bottle into snifter, bottled in 8/2015. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of steaming carbonation retaining the head. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toasted oak, spicy rye whiskey, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, char, raisin, coconut, molasses, and roast/oak earthiness. A bit of booze in the aroma as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts and rye whiskey barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toasted oak, spicy rye whiskey, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, char, raisin, coconut, molasses, and roast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate roast/char and herbal/pine hop bitterness; with rye whiskey/oak spiciness on the finish; lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toasted oak, spicy rye whiskey, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, smoke, char, molasses, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts and rye whiskey barrel flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet and rye whiskey/oak spiciness balance; with zero astringent roast/hop flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roast/hop bitterness and whiskey/oak spiciness; increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, fairly sticky/chalky, and lightly tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden; and small pleasant warmth lingering after the finish, with minimal booziness. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged Russian imperial stout! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts and rye whiskey barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Amazing barrel balance and integration. The classic base beer flavors are all there; great added barrel complexity that does not overwhelm, dry out out the beer too much, or make it feel too boozy. A really amazing offering.

Rated Jan. 2017. 50cl bottle pours with a dark colored body that supports a dark tan head of foam. The aroma offers up tart oak, dry malt balls, a dash of chocolate and vanilla. The taste delivers some chocolate and then an odd tart oak note. To midway chocolate joins in as well as growing boozy whiskey. This is a little bright and disjointed but tasty nonetheless.
