Boiled for 18 hours, aged in bourbon barrels for 20 months, and dosed with rich cacao and almond extract, CHUNK is an over-the-top Imperial Stout heavily inspired by chocolate confections. And because we tend to be enthusiastic when it comes to adjuncts, it is also the most heavily augmented, concentrated, and rich sensory experiences one can seek out in the world of Ontario beer.

Is it thick? It's thick. Velvety? Soo velvety? A fleeting simulation of life on planet Choconut where entire townships are crafted from the fragrant insides of a vanilla pod? Also yes! Consider it hyper-adjuncted, or ultra-condensed to the point where we can no longer confirm any remaining water content.

Black colour with brown head. The aroma is dominated by cacao, chocolate powder. Full bodied, sweet, thick, syrupy; the flavour as well is led by dark cacao notes, with some coffee, bitter nuts (almonds), but also too much acidity, which is unexpected. It's so sludgy that I couldn't drink a couple ounces in the end, it's like curdled milk. It's good, bold, also excessive and rough.

500ml (thx, Chris S.! for forwarding the box with some additions, hehe!) @ Alex's garage during the movie night. Appearance: pours like oil, very dark brown with a dark beige head. Aroma: loads of almonds and American oak, sweet, Taste: along the same lines, intense and thick, a ton of almonds and American oak, quite sweet. Overall: nice sipper.

Dark brown. Thin dark brown head. Dark sugars, some burnt malt accents, the almond comes through a fair bit. Very thick body, almost whipped, with deep fruity, and a rich burnt sugar character. The barrel seems to lend some roundedness to the flavour but it's pretty big. That mega boil is pretty funny. The base is huge and there's still some almond because that's a fairly distinct element.

500mL bottle. Pours black with moderate brown head. Aroma has almond, chocolate, a touch of bourbon. Flavour is very rich; almond, dark chocolate, bitter burnt sugar throughout. Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy. Heavy-handed pastry stout, but very enjoyable.

500mL bottle, pours jet black with a small dark brown head. Aroma is dominated by the almond extract, followed by rich dark cocoa, and a hint of bourbon barrel. Flavour is absurdly rich, with intense dark sugars, big time almond extract, dark cocoa, and a tiny hint of bourbon. Mouthfeel is ridiculously viscous; the flavours are anything but subtle. Inky, oily, almost sludgy. Brutal, but there's undeniably depth and complexity here. Fun but not an elegant beer.
