Awakening from a long slumber nestled amongst bourbon soaked oak we proudly present our new Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine, Creation’s Shadow. This beer was designed to be a celebration of all things malt and is an example of how a few simple ingredients can be transformed to create a beer with many layers of complexity and nuance. Creation’s Shadow was brewed in the vein of English-Style Barleywines choosing to focus on using 2 simple english malts and a restrained hopping schedule. A lengthy 6 hour boil drew out rich flavors of dark caramel, toffee and raisins as the wort slowly caramelized in the kettle. We left Creation’s Shadow to slowly mature over 18 months in small format bourbon barrels from our friends at Mad River Distillers

Bottle to snifter.
Appearance: dark brown color with a quarter finger's worth of a tan head
Aroma: sweet leather, tobacco, dark fruits, subtle cocoa powder, barrel/vanilla character, and a superb level of clean earthiness
Flavor: moderately sweet through the dried qualities of the prior mentioned aromas; mild aftertaste of dark fruits, cocoa powder and tobacco
Texture: medium to full bodied, only a sipper, finishes dry with dark fruits, leather, tobacco and the barrel/vanilla thing
Overall: would I want this again? I ABSOLUTELY WOULD!

Bottle: Poured a dark brown color ale with a small dark brown foamy head with light retention and minor lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with light dry fruit notes with some vanilla and bourbon notes. Taste is also a good mix of caramelized malt notes with some vanilla and bourbon with light dry fruit notes and some balanced residual sugar notes. Body is pretty full with some good carbonation. Soldi BA barleywine.

A deep dark reddish brown barley wine with a thin light mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, licorice, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with vinous notes, dark fruits, alcohol warmth, light bourbon barrel notes, very nice.
