Got maple, chocolate, burnt tobacco as it warmed. Pretty good in 5oz.

On tap at Northern Monk Refectory, pours jet black with a tiny tan head. Aroma has a very strange perfumey, spicy character that might be a function of the barrels and/or adjuncts, but this is strange; there's definitely bourbon, vanilla and coffee in there, but that pronounced spiciness is dominating. Flavour is very rich, with intense spiciness (is that the red vanilla?), with rich bourbon, sticky toffee, maple, coffee and loads of dark sugars. Very unusual, but I think I've come around to this after nursing it for a while. Very good.

A deep dark stout with no head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, light nuts, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, light vanilla, light nuts, alcohol warmth, light maple, very nice. On tap at Lupulus.
