A historical beer, first brewed at the Black Eagle Brewery on Brick Lane in London, Feb 27th 1832. Working with Ron Pattinson, beer historian, we have recreated this beer as closely as possible to that brewed on the day. Rich amber in colour, 8.1%, very malty and with a very large leaf hop character, this beer takes you on a trip to the smoky streets of William IV's London where gin palaces vied with beer houses for the custom of the working masses.

A hazed dark reddish copper ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light vinous character, alcohol warmth, very nice and smooth, qui est almost like a smooth barleywine. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with light resinous hops, light treacle, alcohol warmth, very nice and smooth. On tap at Café Beermoth.

Can, picked up at the brewery. Super murky, reddy amber. Fine ring of off white head. Not what you’d call a looker. Nose has rich, oily herbal hop. Sweet flora. Spicy grain. Touch of minty herb. Smells like an imperial red ale, to me. Taste is rich and sweet, with a big, herbal, leafy bitterness. Medium to full body. Pretty slick and oily. Fine carbonation. Lingering hop leaf bitterness to finish. Super tasty gear, that’s miles off how you’d expect a mild to turn out, but I guess that’s the idea here.
